Job ads all read the same, so here is the straight version of what actually happens when you put your hand up to join a Drillspec crew — from the application to the end of your first swing.

Applying takes minutes, not a cover letter

The application form asks for your details, your trade background, and your resume and tickets as attachments. No SEEK account, no selection criteria essays. It goes straight to the directors — this is a company run by two directors who came up through the trade, and they read every application themselves.

The phone call

If your background fits what we need, the next step is a phone call. Expect a straight conversation about what you have worked on, the gear you know, and what you are after. Ask whatever you like; you will get straight answers, including on rates and rosters, which vary by client and role.

Hand-picked means exactly that. We would rather send three tradies who know the job than ten who don’t.

Before you fly

Site work comes with the usual gatekeeping — expect inductions, medicals and any site-specific tickets to be sorted before you mobilise.

The first swing

You will land on a crew, not in a deep end. Every day starts with the pre-start, the standards are the same at 2am as they are at 2pm, and the directors lead from the front — there is a fair chance whoever is showing you the ropes owns the company. Do good work, look after your crew, and the work looks after you.
