Why Drillspec Directors Still Get on the Tools.
Drillspec Mechanical is led by two directors who came through the trade. Dylan Gallanagh and Zac Parsons still understand the work from the fitter's side because they have done it themselves and remain close to the crews delivering it.
Zac recently took that approach into a different operating environment. Alongside Drillspec's underground lead, Liam, he went underground to learn more about the equipment, systems, working conditions and day-to-day pressure of hard-rock operations.
Learning the operation firsthand
Surface, exploration and underground drilling all place different demands on people and machines. Zac's aim was to build his own understanding of underground work so he could better support the team already operating there.
That meant spending time alongside the crew and seeing how the job runs in practice. The experience added context that cannot be gained from a roster, a report or a phone call alone.
Better support for the underground team
A director who understands the operating environment can make better decisions about labour, equipment support and the problems raised by the crew. It also gives the team a direct line to someone who knows why a site issue matters and what the job is asking of them.
For Drillspec's underground division, that involvement supports the people already doing the work. Zac's role is not to replace the specialists around him. It is to understand their job well enough to back them properly and keep improving the service delivered to clients.
Leadership that stays close to the work
Drillspec's clients deal with directors who can make decisions and understand the mechanical work behind the request. That is useful during a breakdown, a shutdown or a longer rostered placement because the conversation can move quickly from the problem to a workable response.
The same approach shapes recruitment. Drillspec selects tradespeople for technical ability, reliability, attitude and the standard they deliver on site. Directors stay involved because the company's name goes out with every person it supplies.
A company being built for the long term
